“&c” is an old-fashioned abbreviation for “et cetera” (Latin for “and so on” or “and the rest”).

It was commonly used in older books, letters, and documents instead of etc.

Example:

• Books, papers, maps, &c. = Books, papers, maps, etc.

Today, etc. is much more common, and &c is rarely used except in historical texts.
